Unidentified miscreants attacked the house of human rights activist Ahasan Habib in the middle of the night. Today, June 27, 2023, Tuesday midnight, unidentified miscreants attacked Naoda Para village of Shahbandegi union of Sherpur upazila of Bogra district. No one was injured in the attack but the tin wall was vandalized and life threatened. When the common people came forward after hearing the screams, the attackers fled.
Shahjahan Ali, the victim of the attack, said that supporters of the ruling government party attacked my house in the middle of the night. They threatened to kill me and my son Ahsan Habib. I am a politician and my son Ahsan Habib is a journalist and human rights activist. The attackers threatened me to stop politics and to stop working on my son's human rights. I am Senior Vice President of Shahbandegi Union of BNP, the main opposition political party.
My son Ahsan Habib is now in Canada at the International Human Rights Training Program. Yesterday, the United Nations celebrated the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture on June 26 in Montreal, Canada. There he talks about the persecution of people of opposing views by the government party in Bangladesh. Due to which the supporters of the government party reacted and secretly ambushed this attack in the middle of the night.
Sherpur Police Inspector Babu Kumar Saha said that we visited the attack site. We have not yet identified any of the attackers. An investigation is underway. Action will be taken after investigation..
